Typical Day's Schedule

8:35 a.m. or 12:05 p.m.

Door opens, children take care of coats, bags, name tags and begin to work, play or visit.

9:00 a.m. or 12:30 p.m.

Gather for first circle time with music, fingerplays, a learning concept, opportunity for self-expression, station preview.

9:30 a.m. or 1:00 p.m.

Children participate in station work for approximately 10 minutes followed by FREE PLAY until pick-up time is signaled at 10:25 a.m. or 1:55 p.m. Snackee will have made choices for bulletin board work already and will be first in line to wash hands after making sure room is tidy.

10:30 a.m. or 2:00 p.m.

Children stand in line, wash hands, and sit to eat a snack. Included during SNACKTIME will be birthday and unbirthday celebrations and Spanish activities.

10:50 a.m. or 2:20 p.m.

Children participate in transitional activities, often involving music and movement, and prepare to listen to a story. Board guidelines are given for the required project of the day, after which children will go to work. Unlike the totally free artistic expression encouraged during the earlier part of the day, children are asked to use specific tools and materials in a specific way. Our goal is that all children will be able to use crayons, markers, glue, scissors, tape, staplers, paper punches, stamps, etc in an effective and responsible manner. We hope to foster an "I can do it" attitiude as well.

Your child may tell you about the Blue Room. Children may go next door in small groups for creative movement with Paula. (she encourages individual expression through movement, with or without music, involving thinking skills as well as gross motor.) Children may go there for games requiring safe spaces for running, for science activities, creative dramatics, rhythm band, etc. We don't often take the whole class there at one time, but all are given the opportunity.

11:15 a.m. or 2:45 p.m.

Parents: Parents can be most helpful by being on time and by standing near the child's color/shape spot on the mats outside our doors; that way any art done during the day will be picked up.  This will help your child by giving them a consistent place to find you at the end of Escuela.

Students: Children should have their coats and bags and be standing on their color lines, ready to be excused after the "Adios" song.

Please Note: No child should exit past our STOP sign without a responsible adult.
